Autism and Positive Behaviour Support

Aurora Allied Services provides PBS for autistic people across all support needs, including Level 2 and Level 3 autism and individuals with moderate to severe intellectual disability.

Our neurodiversity-affirming approach recognises autism as a valid neurotype with unique strengths, sensory profiles and communication styles. We focus on supporting the person to thrive in environments that understand and respect their needs.

PBS for autistic people includes:

  • Understanding sensory processing differences, including sensory-seeking, sensory-avoidant or mixed profiles.
  • Supporting communication, whether verbal, AAC, visual supports or multimodal communication.
  • Identifying environmental stressors such as noise, unpredictability, social demands or transitions.
  • Building regulation strategies, including sensory tools, movement breaks, co-regulation and predictable routines.
  • Strengths-based skill development, supporting autonomy, daily living skills, community participation and meaningful engagement.
  • Partnering with families and support teams to ensure consistency, respect and shared understanding.

PBS is not about changing the person. It is about changing environments, expectations and supports so the person can navigate the world safely, confidently and authentically.
