Mental health and Positive Behaviour Support

Mental health conditions can influence how a person processes information, manages emotions and responds to stress. PBS is highly effective in supporting people who experience mental health challenges such as schizophrenia, borderline personality disorder, anxiety, depression or suicidal behaviour.

Our approach includes:

  • Understanding the person’s mental health presentation and how it interacts with their environment, relationships and daily expectations.
  • Identifying situations the person finds challenging, such as sensory overload, interpersonal conflict, rapid changes or high-demand environments.
  • Supporting regulation and coping strategies, including grounding techniques, sensory tools, structured  routines and strengths-based skill development.
  • Collaborating with mental health clinicians to ensure PBS strategies align with therapeutic goals and clinical recommendations.
  • Creating environments that reduce distress, promote safety and support meaningful participation.

PBS does not replace mental health treatment. Instead, it complements clinical care by addressing environmental, relational and skill-based factors that influence wellbeing.
